Reid Files Cloture on DREAM Act, Vote Likely Wednesday! Monday night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) filed cloture on the DREAM Act (S.3992), making good on his election promise to amnesty supporters. (National Journal, Dec. 6, 2010) With cloture filed on the DREAM Act, the Senate could vote on whether to proceed with debate on the bill as soon as Wednesday morning! (Id.) House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) also pledged to bring the DREAM Act for a vote on the House floor sometime this week. (CQ Today, Dec. 2, 2010) The Hill reports that the House vote will take place Wednesday morning, although FAIR’s sources tell us the timing of the House vote may still change. Either way, both the Senate and the House could be voting on the DREAM Act within 24-hours! There is no time to lose. CALL YOUR SENATORS AND REPRSENTATIVES NOW and tell them to vote NO on the DREAM Act. Tell them: - Congress should be using its time and energy in the lame-duck session to help American workers, not illegal aliens;
- American students should not have to compete with illegal aliens for limited federal dollars and declining slots at colleges and universities;
- It is unfair that hard-working American taxpayers are forced to subsidize the education of illegal aliens; and
- Granting amnesty to lawbreakers does nothing to stop illegal immigration and will only encourage more.
Remember, if you don’t take action, the only voices they will hear will be the ones that support amnesty, open borders, and immigration policies that serve special interests.
